RE: DADS AND MOMS OF MICHIGAN ANNUAL GALA AND AWARDS BANQUET, March 15, 2008, SOUTHFIELD, MI
Dear Member, Friend, Supporter:
Our Annual Awards Banquet and Gala event raises funds and awareness with which to continue our efforts. Help us by purchasing tickets, or a table (8) and/or a program book advertisement for this exciting event? Please contact our ticket sales office at (248) 559-3237 or complete and mail in the enclosed order form today. We will recognize many distinguished contributors and advocates that promote families and children.
It has only been two decades since noted child psychologist, Michael Lamb, accurately described fathers as the "forgotten contributors of child development." For most of the last century, psychologist, child rearing experts, gender feminists, and the popular culture assumed that fathers were, at best, redundant with mothers and perhaps even irrelevant. The stereotypical view of many, and especially those within the human services agencies, courts, and the legislatures, was... the only adult with whom children have or need a significant relationship is their mother.
Today, much more research here and abroad unequivocally demonstrates that outcomes of children with involved fathers include the behavioral aspects of reduced contact with juvenile justice system/law enforcement, delays in initial sexual activity, and reduced domestic violence. Educational improvements include higher grade completion, greater mathematics and verbal strengths; while emotionally, children of involved fathers also exhibited greater stress tolerance, empathy, and moral sensitivity. Additional research found that children growing up in single-parent (mom or dad) families are twice as likely to develop serious psychiatric illnesses and addictions later in life...further demonstrating what our grandparents knew and most of us already intuitively know, that children really do need both of their biological parents to properly develop in life.
DADS and MOMS of Michigan and its volunteer affiliates are working diligently to prepare parents for responsible parenthood through its various educational programming through the DADS and MOMS University. Parents, state and court officials are likewise regularly informed of the importance of both parents remaining actively engaged in the lives of their children despite the ravages of divorce and custody, in most instances. As a result, we have seen over the past several years, here in Michigan and across the nation, a dramatic shift away from the once prevailing sentiments regarding irrelevance of fatherhood.
On behalf of our Board of Directors and gala committee, we graciously thank all those who have unselfishly volunteered their time and financial resources to promote our mission and cause. Thank you in advance to those who will answer our call for help in our important ongoing work by supporting our Annual Gala and Awards Banquet, Saturday, March 15th at the Westin Hotel in Southfield, Michigan. The children of Michigan and their families are indeed forever in your debt.
Sincerely,
DADS of Michigan

A Child's Right Injects Fatherhood Issues During Mitt Romney Rally http://daddy.typepad.com/daddyblog/2008/01/a-childs-right.html
A Child's Right made sure to inject the fatherhood issue during a Mitt Romney Rally in Battle Creek, Michigan. Darrick Scott-Farnsworth, Angela Pedersen and Robert Pedersen were able to get the Governor's ear on fatherhood issues. Pictures - Robert Pedersen speaks with Mitt about VAWA and Fatherhood Issues. Robert's sweatshirt which states "Kids Still Need Both Parents" caught Mitt Romney's eye and he spoke about the issue on two different occassions...the video below is where Mitt Romney points out Robert Pedersen's sweatshirt. After the rally A Child's Right spoke with several other elected officials that were present.

Consider ordering some DADS merchandise for your favorite DAD this holiday season. Soon we will be adding MOMS merchandise. Sorry Moms, Stepparents and Grandparents, you are as important.
Dads and Moms of Michigan (www.dadsofmichigan.org) includes Dads of Michigan, Moms of Michigan, and Dads of Michigan PAC. These are volunteer responsible parenthood education organizations for fathers and mothers. They instruct on the importance of involved biological parents to the successful development of their children. Dads of Michigan PAC is an independent volunteer political advocacy group dedicated to legislation keeping both biological parents actively engaged in the lives of their children despite divorce and custody, in most instances. They believe men and women should be viewed equally under the law and their credo is: "fathers are responsible parents too...because the best parent is both parents." Dads of Michigan, the Michigan affiliate of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children, is also the developer of the Dads and Moms University of responsible education for teenage, divorced, and unmarried parents. This educational program employs several features to either directly or indirectly benefit nearly 2 million men, women, and grandparents and just under one-half million children each year in Michigan. For more information, please contact us at (248) 559-DADS (3237) or email info@dadsofmichigan.org.
