DADS and MOMS of Michigan eNewsletter
January / February 2007
We had a wonderful year in front of us, expanding education programs and our outreach. We completed planning to expand the DADS and MOMS University. We will conduct an Awards Banquet and Gala on March 17, bicycle marathon in August, Equal Parents Week in September, Dream Cruise, education forums, and Fathers conference. We switched to a live answering service to provide direct support for more than 200 people each month.
We are looking for more Moms, Stepparents, Grandparents, and Dads this next year to help be a mentor to struggling parents, stepparents, and grandparents, to grow the programs. Volunteer and be a mentor, make a commitment, and make a difference today.
Dads and Moms of Michigan will strengthen its focus on education and expand education programs around the state. For information and to help, call 248-559-DADS (3237).

We will recognize many distinguished contributors and advocates that promote families and children. Meet several celebrities at this noted event. Recognize those great Dads, Moms, and parents that know family matters.
It has only been two decades since noted child psychologist, Michael Lamb, accurately described fathers as the “forgotten contributors of child development.” For most of the last century, psychologist, child rearing experts, gender feminists, and the popular culture assumed that fathers were, at best, redundant with mothers and perhaps even irrelevant. The stereotypical view of many, and especially those within the human services agencies, courts, and the legislatures, was… the only adult with whom children have or need a significant relationship is their mother.
Today, much more research here and abroad unequivocally demonstrates that outcomes of children with involved fathers include the behavioral aspects of reduced contact with juvenile justice system/law enforcement, delays in initial sexual activity, and reduced domestic violence. Educational improvements include higher grade completion, greater mathematics and verbal strengths; while emotionally, children of involved fathers also exhibited greater stress tolerance, empathy, and moral sensitivity. Additional research found that children growing up in single-parent (mom or dad) families are twice as likely to develop serious psychiatric illnesses and addictions later in life…further demonstrating what our grandparents knew and most of us already intuitively know, that children really do need both of their biological parents to properly develop in life.
Our Annual Gala and Awards Banquet event raises funds and awareness with which to continue our efforts. Help us by purchasing tickets, or a table (8) and/or a program book advertisement for this exciting event. Please contact our ticket sales office at (248) 559-3237.

Glenn Sacks, Thanks for the Following
How to Stop a Dirty Divorce
Many fathers are very naive when they walk into family court, and the results can be disastrous. Family Law Attorney A.J. Comparetto's Ultimate Guide to Stopping a Dirty Divorce teaches you the Dirty Divorce tricks before they are played on you. It's a series of cassettes and videos which teaches you what judges really want to hear from you in court, how to keep your words from being twisted by attorneys, and how to keep your kids from being caught in the middle. www.divorceproblems.com.
The Business of Love

Finally a Father Friendly Kids' Book
Tired of children's book which portray fathers as fools? Pitch anti-father kids' books like the Berenstain Bears and pick up The Anthology of Stingy Bear's Adventures. While younger readers are entertained by the antics and adventures of greedy, narcissistic little Stingy Bear, mature readers are intrigued by the social and political satire in the book. Numerous vocabulary words are introduced in the book, as well as themes that instill social political awareness, making these stories a valuable teaching tool for parents. www.stingybear.com
Is being a Disneyland Dad taking its toll? Does your 'career' get in the way of seeing your kids?
Having dealt with the family law system for over two decades, I understand the frustration of working long hours at a job while dealing with the unfair rules that our system imposes on dads and their kids. I finally found a life-changing income opportunity that allows me the time and money freedom to be there for my kids on my terms. Dads and Moms of Michigan (www.dadsofmichigan.org) includes Dads of Michigan, Moms of Michigan, and Dads of Michigan PAC. These are volunteer responsible parenthood education organizations for fathers and mothers. They instruct on the importance of involved biological parents to the successful development of their children. Dads of Michigan PAC is an independent volunteer political advocacy group dedicated to legislation keeping both biological parents actively engaged in the lives of their children despite divorce and custody, in most instances. They believe men and women should be viewed equally under the law and their credo is: "fathers are responsible parents too...because the best parent is both parents." Dads of Michigan, the Michigan affiliate of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children, is also the developer of the Dads and Moms University of responsible education for teenage, divorced, and unmarried parents. This educational program employs several features to either directly or indirectly benefit nearly 2 million men, women, and grandparents and just under one-half million children each year in Michigan.
